Dr. Dean L. Bresciani wasn't born in Aggieland, but he got here as fast as he could!  Originally from California's Napa Valley, he came to Texas A&M in the summer of 2004 via the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he held a similar position.  Prior to that, he served in a variety of academic and student affairs roles in California, Ohio, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Arizona (where he also worked in the Arizona University System Board of Regents' Office) and Nebraska.

In other words, Dr. Bresciani — more commonly known around campus as "Dr. B" — was ready willing and well prepared to serve as A&M's third Vice President for Student Affairs.  He received a doctorate in Higher Education-Finance (and a doctoral minor in Economics) from the University of Arizona, a master's degree in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and a bachelor's degree in Sociology from Humboldt State University in California.  In addition to his scholarship - which focuses on higher-education finance - he represents TAMU in:

  • the National Association of State University and Land Grant Colleges - he's Co-Chair of the Council on Student Affairs
  • the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators - he's a past member of the Board of Directors
  • the National Association of College and University Business Officers
  • the American College Personnel Association
  • the Association of College and University Housing Officers-International

Even more telling is the fact that Dr. Bresciani is a devoted advocate of the history and traditions of Aggieland.  According to him, that history and tradition form a foundation that has fostered an academic environment not limited to the classroom.  "The broader campus environment," he says, "encourages the extension of the educational experience to include student leadership development and engagement, resulting in a unique orchestra of education."  In his role as Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Bresciani is responsible for the overall experiences of students at A&M, directly overseeing most out-of-class student life programs and services, including many of the traditions he — like all Aggies — holds so dear:  the Corps of Cadets, Muster, Silver Taps, Fish Camp, ExCEL, Big Event, Greek Life, MSC, OPAS, SCONA, the Wiley Lecture Series, the Singing Cadets and the various University bands, including the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band.

So what does a busy Vice President for Student Affairs do in his spare time?  Dr. Bresciani enjoys a variety of outdoor activities, among them, rock climbing and backpacking.  Since he also enjoys the company of students — on the job as well as off — he has guided university student groups in those kinds of activities in locations throughout the western United States and Alaska.

Aggies and friends of Texas A&M who would like to contact Dr. Bresciani can email him at vpsa@tamu.edu.
